Storing Passwords
Passwords, account names and memorable information are stored by KeyChainDD in OS X keychain items, each keychain item storing a single account name (or user id), password and memorable information combination, together with a text description of the item. Keychain items are in turn stored in keychains.

Note: a "User Id" in KeyChainDD is the same as an "Account Name" in KeyChain Manager.

You can have as many keychains as you like, each with as many keychain items in it as you like. But before you can use KeyChainDD in conjunction with another program, e.g., a browser, you must save your account name and password in a keychain. You can use any keychain that you prefer, or create a new one specifically for the information that you intend to use with KeyChainDD.

Note: You should not use the “login” or “System” keychains - using these may interfere with OS X.

You can use either KeyChainDD or the OS X Keychain Access application to save this information to a keychain, with one exception - "memorable information" can only be stored via KeyChainDD. You can however edit a keychain item that you previously created with Keychain Access to add memorable information using KeyChainDD.

Creating a New KeyChain
Keychains are used to store a collection of keychain items. You either create a keychain using the OS X keychain Access application, or by using KeyChainDD. To do so using KeyChainDD, select the "New Keychain..." item in the "File" menu. A panel will be displayed that allows you to enter the name of the new keychain, and a password.
Note that this password is the password for the keychain, not a password for an website or other secure location. Before KeyChainDD will be able to access the password from any keychain item on that keychain, you will have to enter the password. Warning: if you forget the password, you will not be able to access any password in the keychain.

Creating a New Keychain Item
You either create a keychain item using the OS X keychain Access application, or by using KeyChainDD. To create a keychain item using KeyChainDD, select the keychain that want to create it in, then either right-click or cntrl-click or the keychain and select "New Item", or select "New Password Item..." from the "File" menu. A panel will be displayed that allows you to enter the name of the new keychain item, and a user id, password, etc.
Once you click "Create", if the keychain is locked a further dialog will display asking for your password to the keychain. Note that this dialog is not a KeyChainDD dialog, but is from the Mac OS X security manager. KeyChainDD never sees the password that you provide. Note: If this is the first time that you are using KeyChainDD, or you have upgraded KeyChainDD, the OS X security manager may also ask for your permission to allow KeyChainDD to access the items in the keychain.
Note that you can only enter memorable information via KeyChainDD, not via keychain Access.

Editing a Keychain Item
You either edit a keychain item using the OS X keychain Access application, or by using KeyChainDD. To edit a keychain item using KeyChainDD, select the keychain item that want to edit, then either right-click or cntrl-click the keychain and select "Edit Item", or select "Get Info..." from the "File" menu.
If the keychain is locked a further dialog will display asking for your password to the keychain. Note that this dialog is not a KeyChainDD dialog, but is from the MAC OS security manager. KeyChainDD never sees the password that you provide. Note: If this is the first time that you are using KeyChainDD, or you have upgraded KeyChainDD, the OS X security manager may also ask for your permission to allow KeyChainDD to access the items in the keychain. A panel will be displayed that allows you to edit the keychain item.
Note that you can only enter memorable information via KeyChainDD, not via keychain Access.

Deleting an Item
You either delete a item using the OS X keychain Access application, or by using KeyChainDD. To delete an item using KeyChainDD, select the item that want to delete, then either right-click or cntrl-click the keychain and select "Delete Item", or select "Delete..." from the "File" menu.
